FAQ
ask us
anything
Is it necessary to surrender my passport throughout the visa procedure?
Your passport will need to be retained by the Consulate throughout the processing period and will not be returned to you at the conclusion of your in-person appointment.
What is the typical duration for the approval of a Schengen visa?
The processing period for a Schengen visa can range from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the specific requirements of the Embassy for the country you are applying to, as well as the influx of applications during that period.
Which countries are part of the Schengen Agreement?
The Schengen Agreement includes 26 countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
What distinguishes an Airport Transit Visa from a Transit Visa?
The Airport Transit Visa restricts travelers from exiting the airport area of the Schengen Country. It grants holders the option to remain within the Schengen country for a maximum of 5 days.
How far in advance should I apply for a visa before my intended visit?
You can submit your visa application up to three months prior to the start of your planned trip. It is recommended to apply at least 15 calendar days before your intended visit. However, it’s important to consider national holidays of the Schengen State of destination and the country where you are applying for the visa. If you hold a multiple-entry visa with a validity of at least six months, you can apply for a new visa before your current one expires.
Can I apply for a visa if my passport expires in two months?
In principle, you cannot apply for a visa if your passport will expire within three months after your return from the Schengen State. However, in exceptional cases of emergency, the Consulate may make an exception to this rule.
Can I leave and reenter the Schengen area with my Schengen visa?
Schengen visas can be either single-entry or multiple-entry. A single-entry visa permits you to enter the Schengen area only once, indicated by “01” on the visa sticker. However, with a visa allowing for two or multiple entries, you can enter the Schengen area two or multiple times during the visa’s validity period.
Can I use my visa issued by a specific country to visit other Schengen states?
Yes. As per the Schengen rules, the Schengen visa is generally valid for all countries within the Schengen area. However, it’s important to note that you must always apply at the consulate of the country that is your primary destination (refer to FAQ no. 5). The territorial validity of your visa will be indicated on the visa sticker under the “Valid For” section.
